Is virtual school a certain time each day and if so, what time would the classes be offered, what is the time commitment?
For a summer class, the expectation is three hours per day per course for a total of 15 hours per week.
- No specific times for completing coursework, but students must schedule discussion-based assessments with Fulton Virtual teachers. Students must maintain pacing in the course or will be dropped for not meeting benchmark requirements.
- For Georgia Virtual School, students must maintain pacing requirements and attend Live Learning Sessions, as instructed.
Can a rising 9th grader sign up for the virtual health class during the summer?
While we encourage students to take these classes face-to-face, they can earn credit virtually in the summer. Families are responsible for course fees. Students must indicate their request to take a virtual course in the summer using the course verification process. For rising 9th graders, students must request the course and be approved by the middle school counselor.
Can you access an online class from abroad through GAVS?
Contact Georgia Virtual School to inquire.
Is it possible to retake tests with Fulton Virtual? Just like they do now if they get a grade < 75.
Fulton Virtual is a competency-based program where students have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of the content as they become ready.
In competency-based education, students aren't bound by time. Students only progress once they master the material they are learning. When students do not demonstrate mastery on assessments, they will have the opportunity to reassess after working with the teacher. If students find themselves unable to progress, it becomes necessary for the student to reach out to the virtual teacher to discuss the material that they have not yet mastered.

Important Action Items for Families!
Fulton County Schools is implementing several important technology updates for the 2025–2026 school year. These changes align with new state legislation and reflect our continued commitment to a safe, focused, and equitable learning environment for all students.
What is changing and what you need to do:
- Complete Online Census Verification
All families are required to log in to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and verify emergency contacts and household information. This ensures that schools can contact you quickly and appropriately in case of an emergency. Each student must have at least one emergency contact who is not a parent or guardian. See the attached PDF for more information. - Consider Device Protection Coverage
During the verification process, families may also choose to enroll in the Optional Student Device Protection Plan. This affordable plan provides coverage for accidental damage, loss, or theft of district-issued devices. Click here for device protection plan information. - Personal Device Use Will Be Limited
Beginning next school year, students will no longer be able to connect personal devices to school Wi-Fi. In addition, a new policy aligned with Georgia’s “Distraction-Free Education Act” is proposed that will restrict personal device use.- High school students (grades 9-12) will be prohibited from accessing personal electronic devices during instructional time.
These updates are designed to reduce distractions, promote responsible technology use, and ensure that all students have reliable access to the learning tools provided by the district. For more information, click here.

Thank you for your continued support as we prepare for the new school year.
